Hogwarts Legacy Release, Platforms, and Story overview

Hogwarts Legacy is a new role-playing game set in the world of Harry Potter. It was originally leaked in 2018 under the name “Magic Awakened”. It took a couple more years before Warner Bros Studios revealed the original version. Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. A universe where you can take control of the action. One can do so by being at the center of one’s own adventure in the wizarding world.

There was an official reveal trailer that was released on September 16th, 2020. The trailer introduces the game as a new story set in the Harry Potter universe. It is an RPG. The trailer also brings up the idea that the game includes aspects of the Harry Potter universe that would be completely new: i.e., ancient magic. They have not expanded on what this means. Even the game’s website does not have too much to say about it. It is an area of the Harry Potter lore that the media hasn’t explored much so far. This means that the Hogwarts Legacy will be treading new ground.

The trailer does not give too much information about what the game would be like; however, the official website does. The game will be set in the 1800s. Therefore, your journey will start as a student at Hogwarts.

You’ll learn about various subjects from the wizard world, including Potions and Magical Creatures. In your downtime, you’ll be able to meet new friends, one that could lead to a multiplayer aspect, although we doubt it. The entire game won’t be in the halls of Hogwarts though. Hence, the open-world adventure will take you to new areas across the Wizard World as you go on a journey to use your ancient magic and determine the fate of the world.

The game is currently planned for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, and PC. Sadly, there is no word on a Nintendo Switch version. Even though Nintendo Cloud Streaming brings some triple-A titles to the mobile platform, that too might be possible somewhere down the line.

Release Date

Although the game was originally scheduled for a 2021 release, it was put back to 2022. This was due to the developer wanting more time to create “the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World.”
