Loki (TV Series) – Probable questions and consequent theories

No one bad is ever truly bad, and no one good is ever truly good.

Loki

Loki, a true villain who, at times, conflicts with himself, disputing multiple versions of himself. He is also not afraid to do the right thing for the sake of his own ambitions. His ambition to rule Asgard leads him to cause havoc. In his desire for power, he reaches out to Earth. In this fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the other side of the true villain remains to be seen.

Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as the unpredictable villain, the God of Mischief Loki in this series. The events take place in the MCU and share continuity with the films in the series. The series takes place after the events of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, in which an alternative Loki crafts a new past.

The mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA) has taken an alternative version of Loki into their custody after he steals the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019). The TVA is a bureaucratic agency that exists outside of time and space and oversees the timeline. They give Loki two options, either deleted from existence owing to being a variant or assisting them in repairing the timeline and preventing a larger threat. Loki becomes entrapped in his own time-traveling crime drama. The penultimate episode of Loki is released on Disney+, and here are a few pressing questions that the TV series must solve.

Probable Loki TV Series questions and related hypotheses

How Infinity stones are useless in TVA ?

The 1st episode reveals that the Infinity Stones do not operate in the Time Variance Authority’s enigmatic headquarters. The Infinity Saga refers to the first three phases of the MCU. The Infinity Stones were the most powerful artifacts in the world. Thanos persuaded them to erase half the life in the universe. But in the Loki series, the Infinity Stones don’t matter anymore, lying inside a drawer, and used as paperweights.

The MCU’s Infinity Stones are based on the comic book Infinity Gems. The comics have emphasized that an Infinity Gem can only be used in the universe from whence it came. When someone leaves that world, for example, by traveling to a parallel realm, the Infinity Gems lose their potency. The Infinity Stones will work in their home dimension, and if removed from their home, it wouldn’t be a surprise to find they lose their power.

The TVA’s location remains a mystery. The location appears to exist beyond the flow of time or the dimension from where the Infinity Stones originated. Furthermore, Loki discovered the collection in an evidence drawer, implying that all of these were collected from branching timelines erased by the TVA’s reset charges.

Why the Time-Keepers are fake in Loki ?

The TVA believes the Time-Keepers created them to enforce the Sacred Timeline. The assertion began to unravel in the 3rd episode, showing that all TVA’s operatives were actually variants. The operatives were snatched from time and pushed into service for the Time-Keepers. The whole development suggests that the Time-Keepers‘ claim to supremacy was an overstatement. They were not as powerful as they wanted everyone to believe. The Lokis have learned that the Time-Keepers do not exist; rather, they are fiction, and everything they have taught the TVA is questionable.

This discovery recasts the TVA’s mission. They think their purpose is to protect time, but it appears that they are just instruments whose job is to guarantee the Sacred Timeline follows the will of its actual master. This is someone who considers themselves to be Gods, who enjoy manipulating history but prefers to rule from behind the scenes using proxies.

Who created the Time-Keepers ?

The series has revealed that the TVA’s Time-Keepers are mindless androids. The exact identity of whoever is in control of the TVA is still unknown. The fairly strong theories suggest that either Ravonna Renslayer or Kang the Conqueror or the Watchers or another Loki variant is in command of the TVA.

Ravonna Renslayer

Ravonna is the second-in-command and primary speaker for the Time-Keepers. It’s very conceivable that she was responsible for the development of the Time-Keepers. In the 4th episode, a flashback was shown in which she was working as a TVA Hunter before becoming a judge. It’s not out of the question that she could have replaced the Time-Keepers with the mindless androids at some point. However, this hypothesis suggests that the true Time-Keepers existed before Ravonna.

Kang the Conqueror from the comics
Kang the Conqueror

MCU’s time-traveling villain Kang can also be behind this. The TVA’s technology is similar to Chronopolis, the city where Kang governs. He is also closely associated with Ravonna in the comics. Also, he looks to be a reasonable choice, given he possesses all of the necessary technologies to build something like the TVA.

The Watchers from the comics
The Watchers

In the comics, the Watchers have been more forthright in their efforts to preserve the universe and keep it secure. They could be behind the creation of the Time-Keepers for safeguarding time without violating their own duty to observe.

The most likely answer is that this is yet another Loki, and this type of deception is exactly what the God of Mischief does. Furthermore, this would explain why the TVA is continually tasked to deal with Lokis, as he knows they pose a threat to his dominion. This would be a fantastic twist, making Loki both the hero and the villain of his own TV show.

How come there are so many Loki variants?

A variant is someone who interacts with the original timeline and becomes separated from it. Loki variants are implying numerous incarnations of him who have broken away from the main timeline. One variant of Loki who broke away from the timeline is Loki fleeing with the Tesseract. The 1st episode introduces us to Loki, and TVA apprehended him in the midst of the Gobi desert. This is Loki in 2012, still wicked and crafty, who fled with the Tesseract in Endgame. Similarly, other variants of the God of Mischief have repeatedly caused problems for the Time Variance Authority by messing with their cherished Sacred Timeline.

Readers encounter other variants of the God of Mischief in the Marvel comics. The 2nd episode, however, takes an unexpected turn when it is discovered that the wicked variation of Loki sought by the TVA is actually Lady Loki, known as Sylvie. In every different timeline, there is a different version of Loki. Interfering with the Sacred Timeline makes Loki a variant, so that’s why we can see so many Lokis.

Is Loki making a comeback in the Main Timeline?

The multiverse and time travel allows for numerous storylines; whether Loki will return to the main timeline and reunite with some of the heroes he left behind remains a mystery. With the proof of Loki’s connection to Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s reasonable to believe Loki will return to the main timeline at some point. Loki, on the other hand, has already been given a season 2 renewal by Marvel Studios. Perhaps Loki will return to the main timeline for a brief moment to help Dr. Strange before continuing to jump between timelines, either wreaking havoc and mischief or atoning for his prior transgressions.

What does this series have to do with Dr. Strange 2?

Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, has stated that Loki will have a role in the events of the Dr. Strange sequel. The connection between them remains to be seen. It is anticipated that Loki would travel across multiple timelines and maybe different universes, so perhaps this cosmic disruption will be enough to pique Dr. Strange’s interest. Dr. Strange collaborating with Loki rather than being his opponent would be a far more fascinating concept. Their repartee might be on a whole new different level because they are both highly adept magic users with enormous minds and witticism.

There is also a chance of revealing Nightmare since he is a king from another dimension. This may help connect Loki into Dr. Strange 2, as Nightmare is a classic Dr. Strange villain and could wind up being the sequel’s actual adversary.

Did Loki really die in the Infinity War?

Thanos killed the God of Mischief at the opening scene of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. Loki’s death scene carried a sense of finality that is rare in the MCU. Despite the violence of the sequence, many Marvel fans questioned Loki’s death when it was published. The character’s ability to fool even the most cunning of his opponents prompted many to speculate that he may have faked his death – the Loki whose neck Thanos breaks may have been an illusion. Marvel’s Loki follows a version of the God of Mischief who fled with the Tesseract during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame.

In the 5th episode of Loki, Tom Hiddleston’s trickster encounters more Loki variants than he has ever encountered before. Among the Loki variants, one was known as Classic Loki, older than any of the other Loki variants. Classic Loki tells how he managed to avoid his death at the hands of Thanos. Notably, it provides an opportunity for Marvel to disclose that Loki’s death in Infinity War was staged.

As a result, if the Hiddleston version returns to the main timeline and stays there until Thanos’ attack in Infinity War, he may be able to utilize the same deception that Classic Loki used to save himself from death.

In conclusion

The last several installments of MCU have reluctantly given villains their due. Unfortunately, Loki was overlooked as the most fascinating, if not attractive, of the MCU antagonists. He is one of the few MCU characters that openly expresses the all-too-human emotions of jealously, insecurity, and self-aggrandizement.

Loki is a Disney+ streaming service television series created by Michael Waldron and produced by Marvel Studios. The series is a wonderful departure from the MCU, with actor Tom Hiddleston expertly transitioning from popular villain to adorable antihero. In simple words, the Loki TV series is a masterpiece. The first season has received positive reviews, and the second one is in development. The only question now is whether any of the mysteries will be solved in this season’s finale or whether we will have to wait until the following season? We’ll find out in less than a week when the last installment of the six-part MCU series releases.
