Gameplay and Mechanics

Dying Light 2 is role-playing, survival-action game that takes place 20 years after the events of Dying Light. It follows protagonist Aiden Caldwell through a massive open-world much similar to its prequel. Aiden has parkour skills and is equipped with melee weapons with which most of the combat takes place. Players can craft items using scraps and other resources that will be useful during a melee. The first-person perspective will be the only point of view for gamers in the open world.

A new range of zombies is present in the game. Just like in the first game, they will be more aggressive during the night and slightly weaker during the day. This dynamic is also popular in other survival games like Days Gone. Apart from these, the makers have also introduced some new elements that add depth to the game. Players can now join hands with factions and greatly alter their chances of survival. Making the right decisions will open up more areas in the game’s world. It will also affect how NPCs view Aiden as a character. This allows users to complete several walkthroughs at the same time and make faster progress. The game will have real-life issues and several political doctrines present. These serve the purpose of adding an extra layer of seriousness to the game overall. Each playthrough will involve the narrative to a large extent.

New Features

Themes of betrayal and infidelity, inspired by the Dark Ages, set the tone of the game. There is also increased emphasis on how Aiden interacts with NPCs and vice-versa. The zombies function as a plot device that tests how Aiden and NPCs make decisions under tense circumstances. Unlike the prequel, Dying Light 2 gives increased importance to the narrative. Each decision that the player makes will have its own distinct consequences.

Dying Light 2 is set in a world where zombies are on the rampage and humans are nearing extinction

The open-world exists in a way to invoke feelings of isolation and loss. The makers have also made it a priority to depict that humanity is edging closer to oblivion as time goes by. Humans reside in fragile and makeshift houses built on ruins, whereas zombies occupy more permanent edifices.

Additionally, the human foes in the game will be more dangerous and powerful compared to the first game. They will be almost equally hostile as the zombies. The latter has adopted a new life cycle in the game. Newly bitten ones are called Viral. They will be fast and powerful and are still partially human. These Virals would gradually evolve and become the Biters, which are the conventional zombies. Furthermore, exposure to UV rays for long periods will turn the Biters into Degenerates. These Degenerates are decaying zombies with skin slowly degrading from their bodies.
