Jujutsu Kaisen’s director is hyping up the release of its new movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0! The debut season of the anime adaptation for Gege Akutami’s original manga series was so successful that the franchise is in a whole new kind of popularity than before the anime kicked off. However, rather than continuing with a second full season of the anime, the franchise is now working towards the debut of its first feature film, taking on the original prequel story crafted by Akutami long before the release of the main series. According to the director, the film releasing later this year in Japan has been coming together.
What to expect
The trailer also features the movie’s opening theme, Itto by King Gnu. King Gnu is also known for their performance of Banana Fish’s ending theme 1, “Prayer”, which garnered favor with Banana Fish fans.
As expected, we can also see MAPPA Studio’s quality work bringing the Jujutsu Kaisen aesthetic to life in the trailer. Dynamic battle scenes feel real just as they did in Jujutsu Kaisen S1, while low-intensity shots present in the trailer highlight that consistent quality throughout.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 – Characters
As the film is a prequel, this means regular first-year Jujutsu Kaisen characters. Such as Yuji, Megumi, and Nobaro will not appear in the film. However, second years Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, Panda, and teacher Satoru Gojo will be making an appearance alongside some interesting new characters.
Expected plot
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has received a new trailer, revealing more plot details of the prequel film. The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film will be an adaptation of the Gege Akutami manga, which serves as a prequel to the Jujutsu Kaisen series.
The film will tell the story of Yuta Okkutsu and his haunting by the Curse. A spirit monster, born from his deceased childhood friend, Rikka Orimoto. Whom he had once promised to marry before her early death. This haunting then causes Yuta to isolate himself from loved ones. However, when he meets a sorcerer named Satoru Gojo, his life will change forever.
This prequel tells the backstory for Yuta Okkutsu, who in the Jujutsu Kaisen series is a second-year Jujutsu student in the Occult, who teams up with the series’ protagonist Yuji Itadori as they seek to protect the mortal world from the cursed.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 : Release date
The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime movie is set to release in Japan on December 24th, 2021. Alongside the release of the first teaser trailer, it was announced that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 would debut in Winter 2021. Then, following an event in Japan, the production team confirmed that the film would premiere in cinemas on Christmas Eve.
However, fans should remember that this release date will concern only the film’s theatrical release in Japan. Besides, no information on the international premiere has been revealed yet.
