Uncharted movie – Release date and what to expect!

After being in development for years now, Uncharted has finally received a release date and will be coming out soon. The movie will be a prequel to the video game series Uncharted, created by Naughty Dog. Tom Holland is starring as a younger version of the video game’s protagonist Nathan Drake. Mark Wahlberg will also star in the movie as Nathan’s mentor Victor Sullivan, with Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer, another treasure hunter.

The work on a cinematic adaptation of Uncharted began in 2008. Avi Arad announced that he is working with Sony to make a live-action adaptation of the video game series by Naughty Dog. The movie stayed in production hell for more than a decade, during which attached directors, writers, and cast kept changing.

At one point, Nathan Fillion showed interest in playing Nathan Drake, even starting a campaign on Twitter. He then went on to star in a fan-made live-action short movie as Nathan Drake in 2018. Despite all the interest from Nathan Fillion, the studios never seriously considered casting him as Nathan Drake.

Mark Wahlberg was the first serious casting for Nathan Drake in 2010, with David O Russell as the director. Russell left soon, with many different directors and writers stepping in to make the movie with Wahlberg. By 2015, Sony started looking for a new actor for Nathan, with Chris Pratt being their choice. Pratt was quick to decline.

Uncharted will show Nathan’s and Victor’s first adventure together and will serve as a prequel to the video games. From the trailers, we can see that the movie will also show how Chloe Frazer and Nathan met. In the games, Chloe is another treasure hunter, just like Nathan and Victor, with her and Nathan sharing some history together. The video games never made it clear when they both met each other, and the movie will help clear that for us.

From the trailer, we can see that the movie will follow Nathan, and Victor on a journey to find, what Victor describes as – the biggest treasure that’s never been found. The treasure is that of Ferdinand Magellan, who found the riches worth $5 billion on his journeys. Along with finding the treasure, Nathan is out to find his brother Sam, who went missing looking for this treasure as well.

It’s clear from the trailer that Uncharted will have its own separate continuity. Despite that, the movie will be borrowing from the video games, such as the airplane scene from Uncharted 3. This is just one of the big action set-pieces that the movie will have, as Uncharted is known for having the most awe-inspiring action sequences in video game history.
